Downton Abbey!

Wow, Downton Abbey fans unite! I think everyone at Highclere Castle yesterday was only there because of the t.v. show. Of course I was too so I can’t complain that the house was so busy! The grounds were beautiful and John and I were finally able to have a picnic in front of a castle…

Of course I had to get a picture up the drive like in the opening scene when they pan to the castle…

Close ups of the front…

I have a few shots from the inside but you will have to watch the show to see more!…these bedrooms were used for the girl’s rooms…

Of course everything was smaller than it seems on the show but it was all still very beautiful. The main hall viewed from the arches above was unique…

I don’t know about you but I love Downton Abbey mostly because of the servants story lines so I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t really get to see that part of the house or the kitchen. We did go downstairs though and here is the servants staircase and bells for service…

The house also held an extra surprise because there was a full on Egyptian exhibit in the basement. It turns out that the 5th Earl of Canarvon was in the team that found King Tut’s tomb in 1922. Many items were on display that were taken before the main excavation took place. It was incredible! You will have to come and check it out.

Last goodbye of Downton…

  1. I love Downton Abbey! How fabulous that you got to go and see the estate and enjoy a picnic while there. Thank you for sharing your pictures. I love the one of the arches.
